Tesla’s Solar Roof and Powerwall were facing a highly anticipated public launch. While Tesla was urging us to push more of its purchase flow to digital channels, we asked how and if people would really buy sophisticated energy products online?
With the (re)acquisition of SolarCity, and the ever-expanding suite of Tesla Energy products, the executive team wanted an ownable interaction model that could be leveraged across the entire customer experience.

We worked in close collaboration with the Tesla Energy leadership team to understand the unique requirements for purchasing a Solar Roof and how that process differs from purchasing traditional retrofit solar panels (SolarCity model).
A core Tesla design tenet is to dramatically reduce customer friction during the purchase process. We designed a responsive online configurator that demonstrated solar power offset and lifetime value, while capturing just enough information to qualify a customer purchase.
